That "we are not common ancestors with apes" (by which I assume is
meant, humans and apes have no common ancestor) is probably one of the
more... well, no way around it, idiotic things to have misinterpreted any
academic to have said.  And I say that without having read the "study"
(whatever and wherever it is; specifying university and month isn't really
a useful reference).  Because, after all, pick ANY two earthly organisms,
and they have a common ancestor.  It's just a question of how long ago.
That's about as solidly known as it's possible to get.  DNA is marvelous
stuff, really.

Further, it's clear humans and chimps are fairly *closely* related,
as such things go, because of homologies in the chromosomes.  I mean,
there's maps of what had to change to get from one to the other, and
it's nowhere *near* the level of "aren't kin to them" as veritas claims.

Various details get shuffled now and then, but you have to really work
hard to ignore the big picture there.

Yes, we are "common ancestors with apes".  Get over it.
